Currently casting principal singers for basic demo recording.


Project will begin Saturday, June 21st and continue until complete.  Flexible schedule.  


This is a paid opportunity to help shape the music of a new musical. Seeking experienced singer/actors able to learn material independenty. Piano/vocal score and digital track provided. Coaching available in person or via Zoom.  Recording will take place at John Carroll University, in University Hts.


Pay rate ranges from $50 to $100 per song depending on amount of singing required. This project is supported in part by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council.


Jenna and the Troublemaker was originally commissioned by the Sundance Theatre Program as a one-act play with music.  Now a two-act musical, it is inpsired by a picture book of the same name written by Hiawyn Oram

The characters are larger than life, grounded by authentic expression.  Ages 16-55 will be considered.  

CAST OF CHARACTERS


Troublemaker (Tenor)                    

Mr. T. makes the troubles we all suffer. Professional though at time befuddled. Insighful and eccentric. Capable of great tenderness though his job often requires him to be what humans percieve as cruel. No one knows for certain but at least 400 years young!           


Hildie     (Alto)                                   

One of two assistants to Mr. T. She is a dog. Orderly,  punctual, type "A" personality. Devoted to Mr. T.   Faithful worrier.


Jed (Baritone)                              

Second of two assistants. A phat cat, poet and philosopher.  As relaxed as Hildie is uptight. Devoted to the Troublemaker. Loves a night on the prowl.


Rooster (Bass)                              

The timekeeper. Omnipresent.  A thorn in Mr. T's side.


Ms. Picket-Pike (Mezzo w/belt)                         

A bookish, mature woman.  Thrust into teaching. She does not like children but takes her responsibility for them very seriously.  Dutiful. Alone in the world. Behind her sharp exterior is something beautiful, fragile.




KIDS (open to youthful singer/actors age 12 to 30)

Jenna Green (Soprano)               

A kind, shy, insecure and confused nine-year-old girl.  Tries to fit in though never feels she belongs.  Wants to do what is right but afraid to speak up. Searching for her place in the world.


Annie Perfect (Soprano)               

Nine-year-old-girl whose name says it all.  Everything about her is perfect from her hair to her handwriting.  Inside she is all doubt and shame.  Has an eating disorder.


Heather Hide (Alto)                    

Tough talking nine-year-old girl. Taller and more      developed than the other kids her age.  Wants everyone to believe that nothing can hurt her. Inside feels she can never do anything right enough for harsh abusive people around her.


Julian Woodby (Tenor)                  

A proper eight-year-old British boy.  Younger than the others.  Intelligent but doesn't apply himself.  Lies about his is athletic ability. He's not fooling anyone. His father recently passed away.


Any Either-Either (Mezzo, Alto, Tenor, or Baritone)                         

(Pronounced Eether-Ither) Gender fluid nine-year-old using they/them pronouns. Athletic, colorful, creative.  A great cook.  Well adjusted, confident and kind. Alone at night they fear if they can't "choose" to be like everyone else, either this or that, they are nothing.  Strong sense of rhythm, has rap song.


Bella Voce (Lyric Mezzo)               

Nine-year-old girl with rich inner life.  Keeps to herself.      Stutters and has life-long heart disorder. She is      ambulatory but may use support devise. Hopeful and happy.  She sometimes feels her aloneness.
